Chief Credit Officer (CCO)
Location: Central Kansas
Position Summary
A growing community bank in Central Kansas is seeking a Chief Credit Officer to provide strategic leadership over the bank’s credit function. Continued growth has created the need to separate the Chief Credit Officer responsibilities from the Chief Operating Officer role, creating an opportunity for an experienced credit professional to help shape the bank’s future.
The Chief Credit Officer will serve as a member of executive leadership and play a critical role in maintaining the bank’s strong credit culture while helping prepare the organization for long-term executive succession. This individual will mentor lenders, oversee credit administration, lead the loan committee, and ensure sound risk management practices while remaining approachable, collaborative, and solutions-oriented.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the bank’s overall credit administration function.
- Provide leadership and oversight of loan operations, credit analysis, and compliance functions.
- Chair and guide the loan committee alongside executive leadership.
- Develop, implement, and maintain sound credit policies and underwriting standards.
- Partner with lenders to structure quality loan transactions while balancing growth and risk.
- Mentor, coach, and develop commercial lenders throughout the organization.
- Monitor credit quality, problem assets, portfolio concentrations, and overall loan risk.
- Ensure regulatory compliance and maintain strong relationships with examiners.
- Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic initiatives and succession planning.
- Foster a credit culture that emphasizes education, consistency, creativity, and sound judgment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (Finance or related field preferred).
- Significant commercial credit experience within community banking.
- Previous leadership experience in credit administration or lending management.
- Strong knowledge of commercial credit analysis, loan policy, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience leading loan committee discussions and making sound credit decisions.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and leadership abilities.
