Senior Grain Merchandiser

The Senior Grain Merchandiser is responsible for developing and executing strategic grain marketing initiatives, cultivating relationships with end users, and creating profitable trading opportunities. This role combines advanced market analysis with relationship management to optimize grain positioning and maximize revenue through direct sales to processors, exporters, and other end-user customers.

What you will be doing:

• Strategic Market Development
  • Identify and develop new end-user relationships including processors, feed mills, ethanol plants, and export terminals
  • Create and execute positioning strategies to capture basis opportunities and margin optimization
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements with end-user customers
  • Develop creative marketing solutions and structured products for both producers and end users
• Advanced Grain Merchandising
  • Originate grain through sophisticated marketing programs and competitive positioning
  • Manage complex grain flows and logistics coordination between origins and destinations
    • Execute hedging strategies and risk management across multiple delivery periods
  • Analyze market fundamentals, basis patterns, and spread relationships to identify opportunities
  • Develop FOB trucking merchandising program
• Customer Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key end-user accounts
  • Provide market intelligence and advisory services to high-volume producers
  • Conduct on-site visits and presentations to both producers and end-user facilities
  • Serve as primary liaison for premium and specialty grain programs
• Market Analysis and Communication
  • Monitor global supply/demand factors, weather patterns, and geopolitical events
  • Prepare market outlooks and strategic recommendations for management and customers
  • Lead producer education seminars and end-user marketing presentations
  • Maintain current knowledge of government programs, regulations, and policy impacts
• Operations Management
  • Oversee daily pricing and bid management across multiple locations
  • Coordinate with operations team to ensure seamless execution of contracts
  • Manage grain inventory positions and optimize storage utilization
  • Ensure compliance with contract specifications and quality requirements

A successful candidate for this Senior Grain Merchandiser will possess the following:

• Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Economics, Finance, or related field strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5-7 years of grain merchandising, commodity trading, or agricultural marketing experience
  • Proven track record of developing end-user relationships and creating new business opportunities
  • Experience with futures markets, basis trading, and risk management tools
• Technical Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of commodity markets, pricing mechanisms, and derivatives
  • Proficiency with grain management software, trading platforms, and market data systems
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities
  • Expert-level Excel skills and familiarity with database management
