General Manager

General Manager – Hutchinson CO-OP, Hutchinson, Minnesota

Ag1Source has partnered with the Hutchinson Cooperative board of directors to seek a General Manager. This role is open to replace their current leader who is retiring after many years of outstanding service for this central Minnesota cooperative. This cooperative has an excellent track record of success via excellent service, quality products, and excellent profitability. They have a diverse business model that includes agronomy, grain, feed, bulk petroleum, convenience stores, and a tire/service station. Each with solid financials, great assets, and room for growth.

Candidates considered for this position should possess business management and leadership success in the retail cooperative system. Hutch CO-OP plays a vital role in its community and seeks a leader to live within its trade area, which currently consists of locations in Hutchinson, Lester Prairie, Silver Lake, and Arlington.

Primary Responsibilities

• Partner with the Board of Directors to establish strategic direction and expectations, then create the organizational goals and system of accountability to exceed those expectations
• Oversee the risk management of the organization
• Manage the organization to maximize return for the members/patrons
• Provides effective communication at all organizational levels, including board guidance, leadership team, employees, business partnerships, community, and any related government or regulatory agencies
• Relate to rural members with a high level of integrity and trust
• Recruit, hire, develop, and retain a high-performing team

Key Requirements

• This position requires strong financial acumen, including an ability to oversee grain and energy hedging, lead a great team of department leaders and employees, and provide the organization with industry foresight to keep it moving forward
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field, ten-plus years of Cooperative leadership or ag-business experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
• A strong track record of performance in P&L management and departmental budgeting while serving in a leadership capacity
• Possess a fundamental understanding of retail cooperative operations

• This position reports to a 5-member Board of Directors and is supported by a team of veteran business unit leaders
• The position is in Hutch Co-op’s main office in Hutchinson, Minnesota
• A key component of this position is community involvement, so this position requires the GM to live within the cooperative’s trade area
